It also demanded the swift arrest of the killers of Osman Hadi and called for the immediate restoration of law and order in the country.
In a statement issued yesterday (20 December), Chattogram Press Club President Zahidul Karim Kochi and Acting General Secretary Mia Md Arif said, "At a time when the nation is grieving the death of Sharif Osman Hadi, a frontline leader of the July mass uprising and spokesperson of the Inqilab Manch, attempts are being made to create instability in the country and severely damage its image on the international stage by attacking the media."
The statement said, "Attacks on the media cannot be accepted under any circumstances. Such acts are completely contrary to media freedom, the constitutional right to freedom of expression, and the rule of law."
The press club leaders further said, "The media was gagged even during the previous government. If attacks on the media continue even after the fall of the fascist government, then where will the people place their trust?"
They demanded an immediate, fair and impartial investigation into the incidents, legal action against those involved, and security for media outlets and journalists.
