Ctg mayor plans playgrounds, parks for every ward

Chattogram City Corporation Mayor Shahadat Hossain has announced plans to build playgrounds and children's parks in all 41 wards to provide children with happy and healthy childhoods.
He expressed the desire to develop Feroz Shah and Bahurupi Fields into recreational spaces, enabling young people to engage in physical activities and improve their mental and physical health.
To kickstart these initiatives, the mayor laid the foundation stone for three development projects today (11 December).

The projects include the Maheshkhal Beautification Project in Ward 26 with a budget of Tk2.78 crore, the Feroz Shah Ground Development and Beautification Project in Ward 9 with a Tk3.02 crore budget, and the Bahurupi Ground Development and Beautification Project in Ward 11 with a budget of Tk2.74 crore.
Speaking at the event, the mayor said, "On behalf of the city corporation, I am initiating various projects to increase healthy recreation opportunities for citizens. Additionally, I have reached out to other government agencies for land allocations."
He also stated that steps have also been taken to reopen Agrabad Shishu Park, Zia Shishu Park, and the Bahaddarhat Independence Complex to the public.
The mayor highlighted his overarching goal, saying, "Our primary objective is to make Chattogram a green city. The Maheshkhal Beautification Project will introduce green spaces and walkways along the canal, creating a recreational area for citizens."
Addressing the city's persistent waterlogging issues, the mayor said, "Waterlogging is a longstanding challenge caused by unclean canals and unplanned development. We are addressing this by deepening canals, ensuring regular cleaning, and raising public awareness. Improved coordination between the CDA and the city corporation is also essential to make canal excavation efforts more effective."
