Chattogram Customs to auction goods worth Tk35cr on Thursday
The products include 23 types of metal construction materials worth around Tk23cr

Chattogram Customs House will auction various goods worth around Tk35 crore on Thursday.
The products include 23 types of metal construction components, Toyota and Nissan microbuses, bentnet powder, sulfuric acid, textile chemicals, glycerine products, winter clothing, footwear, dragon fruit, hand sanitiser, readymade garments, and iron products.
Ali Reza Hayder, deputy commissioner of the auction branch of Chattogram Customs told The Business Standard, "Customs authorities are organising auctions twice a month to reduce the congestion of auction goods at Chattogram Port."
Md Morshed, manager of KM Corporation, a private organisation that arranges the auctions on behalf of customs, said, "The auction bids were invited on 23 December. The last date for submission of bids was 29 December and will be opened at 2pm on Thursday."
Notably, at times importers do not take delivery of various goods and customs sometimes seizes various products imported, attempting tax evasion. As per rules, importers have to take delivery of products within 30 days. If they do not do so, customs authorities notify them to unload their products. If the goods are not unloaded within 15 days of the notification, customs authorities may then auction the goods.
