Severe waterlogging has gripped the port city of Chattogram since the morning due to heavy rainfall originating from a low pressure formed at the Bay of Bengal. Although intermittent raining had been happening in the city since Wednesday, it intensified today (1 August) morning, inundating all the low-lying areas of the city.

Assistant Meteorologist at Patenga Met Office Md Ali Akbar Khan told TBS, "We've recorded around 114.6mm rainfall from 9am on Wednesday morning to 9am on Thursday morning. Around 62mm rainfall has taken place from 6am to 9am on Thursday only."

"There is a possibility that rainfall will continue throughout Friday. The situation will start to improve from Saturday."

Considering the situation, the Patenga Sea Port has been asked to hoist local cautionary signal no-3, while the river ports have been advised to show cautionary signal no-1. The low-lying areas of Chattogram city has gone under water due to this heavy rainfall. An acute waterlogging has crippled the city residents, who are finding it hard to walk outside their homes for emergency purposes.
