Crude bombs explode in Moghbazar, Mouchak, Shantinagar; 1 injured
Eyewitnesses reported that the bombs were hurled from the flyover
Three crude bomb explosions occurred in the capital's Mogbazar, Mouchak, and Shantinagar areas, leaving one pedestrian injured.
The incidents took place between 4:15pm to 5pm today (18 December). Eyewitnesses reported that the bombs were hurled from the flyover.
Seeking anonymity, a traffic sergeant told The Business Standard that the first explosion occurred when a crude bomb fell on the eastern sidewalk of Shantinagar intersection leaving a female pedestrian injured.
Moments later, another crude bomb exploded in Mouchak and another a few minutes later in Moghbazar, the official said.
"It is being assumed that the crude bombs hurled from the flyover are by a group riding on a motorcycle," the traffic sergeant added.
Shahjahanpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Amirul Islam, however, claimed that the exploded objects were merely firecrackers.
He also could not say whether anyone had been injured from the explosions.
He further stated that the Moghbazar incident falls under the jurisdiction of Ramna Police Station.
However, Ramna Police Station Officer-in-Charge Rahat Khan told The Business Standard that he heard no such thing about the incident.
