'Crude bomb' explosions outside International Crimes Tribunal gate
Shahbag police say the incident happened at around 5:30-6am today

An explosion of "crude bomb-looking firecrackers" has occurred in front of the gate of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT), adjacent to Shishu Academy in Dhaka.
Shahbag Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khalid Mansur said the incident happened between 5:30am and 6am this morning (1 June), reports Prothom Alo.
The incident took place hours before the ICT prosecution team filed formal charges against ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and two others at the tribunal in a case filed over crimes against humanity during last year's July Uprising.
"This incident happened on the footpath in front of the gate of the ICT. However, the bomb did not contain the materials typically found inside crude bombs," said OC Khalid.
Meanwhile, The Daily Star reported that three crude bombs were hurled by unidentified individuals in front of the second gate of ICT. Two of them exploded while the third did not go off. Shahbagh police later recovered it.
When asked whether a general diary (GD) or case was lodged over the incident, Khalid said legal proceedings were underway and all concerned parties were informed.
"So far, no one has been detained or arrested. CCTV camera footage review and other activities are in progress," he added.
