Crowd beats 3 suspected AL activists at Dhanmondi 32
Police say they will verify the allegations, and if they are innocent, they will be released

A group of people gathered at Dhanmondi 32 in the capital beat up three individuals on suspicion of being activists of banned Awami League tonight (14 August).
The incidents took place between 8:30pm and 9pm.
According to witnesses, the first altercation began when one man at Dhanmondi 32 was seen showing someone the scene over a video call. A group of people present there claimed that images of Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Mujibur Rahman were visible on the recipient's phone screen, which sparked anger.
The man was beaten by the crowd before police arrived and took him into custody.
Those who beat up the man alleged that similar photos were also found on the man's phone.
They said they had taken position in the area after Sheikh Hasina's son Sajeeb Wazed Joy reportedly called on Awami League leaders and activists to gather at Dhanmondi 32.
They said they had gathered at Dhanmondi 32 to avert any possible unrest.
About half an hour later, two more people were beaten by the crowd at the same location and handed over to police.
However, no one at the scene could clearly explain why the two were suspected of being Awami League workers.
During the assaults, the crowd was heard chanting slogans such as "AL agents beware" and "Zia's soldiers, unite and fight."
Speaking to the media, Ramna Division Deputy Police Commissioner Masud Alam said three people are in custody.
"We will verify the allegations, and if they are innocent, they will be released. If found guilty, legal action will be taken," he said.
