Woman's body found outside Sonargaon Hotel in Dhaka

Police recovered the body of an unidentified woman from the sidewalk in front of the Sonargaon Hotel in the capital's Hatirjheel area early Tuesday.

The woman, believed to be around 45 years old, was wearing an orange saree, blouse, and petticoat at the time of recovery. Her identity could not be ascertained immediately.

Hatirjheel Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Md Shahin Parvez said they received information at around 5:30am about an injured woman lying on the footpath outside the hotel.

"We found her head severely crushed. She was rushed to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared her dead around 6am," he said.

He added that police tried to identify her using fingerprints, but no National ID record could be matched.

The body has been kept at the hospital morgue for autopsy.

"Preliminary inquiries suggest the woman may have been homeless and used to stay in the vicinity of the Sonargaon Hotel," SI Shahin said, adding that efforts are underway to determine her identity.

"We are also investigating whether it was a road accident or if there was any other reason behind her death. The exact cause will be known once we receive the autopsy report," the officer added.
