A woman was allegedly raped and killed by a former union parishad member at Sadarpur Upazila in Faridpur early yesterday (20 April).

The daughter of the deceased lodged a case at Sadarpur Police Station last night (20 April), accusing former union parishad member Momrej Khalashi of killing her mother, confirmed the station's Officer-in-Charge Nazmul Hasan.

The alleged rape and murder happened at Cholemana village under Akoterchar Union in the upazila around 3am on Sunday.

The accused is currently on the run, said police.

OC Nazmul said, "We are primarily suspecting that the victim was killed after rape. Details will be known after the autopsy. We are investigating."

Quoting the locals, police said Momrej stayed and gossiped in a room inside the victim's house on the night of the incident.

At one point, Momrej called the victim to the room and left after the woman fell sick. Upon finding the woman in a critical condition, the granddaughter of the woman started to scream, bringing the neighbours to the spot, said police.

The victim's family members took her to a local hospital quickly, where the on-duty doctors declared her dead at around 4am, according to police.

Neighbours claimed the victim had an extramarital affair with Momrej for a long time, and he used to go to the victim's house and stay there on a regular basis.
