Two drug dealers were killed in an alleged gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Teknaf, Cox's Bazar in the early hours of July 29.

The deceased are identified as top yaba traders Abdur Rahman, 42, of Sabrang, Lejirpara in Teknaf, and Omar Faruk, 31, of Kunia village of Goyalia Para in Ramu.

A bottle of contraband phensidyl, a foreign-made pistol, 4,000 pieces of yaba tablets, four rounds of bullet and a private car were recovered from the scene at Baharchara on Marine Drive Road.

“RAB had news that a shipment of yaba from Teknaf would be taken to Dhaka by a private car,” RAB-2 Company Commander (SP) Mohiuddin Farooqi said.

Based on the information, a RAB team was stationed at Marine Drive.

The “gunfight” took place when yaba traders fired at the RAB team from a speeding car that the law enforcers tried to stop and later fired back in self-defense.

At one point, a few of the drug dealers escaped and two were shot.

The injured two were taken to Teknaf Hospital where they died.

RAB’s Naik Abdur Rahman, soldiers Liton and Nurul Islam were also injured in the incident.

The two dead bodies have been kept in the morgue of Cox's Bazar Sadar hospital for autopsy.
