Three abducted Sri Lankan nationals rescued in Bagerhat; 4 arrested
Two of the victims had arrived in Dhaka on 22 April at the invitation of a Bagerhat resident for business purposes

Police in Bagerhat rescued three Sri Lankan nationals who were abducted for ransom in Mollahat.
The rescue operation took place in the early hours of today (24 April) at the residence of Emdad Kazi in Dakshin Ambari village. During the operation, police arrested four individuals over their involvement in the abduction.
The rescued Sri Lankan citizens have been identified as Malavi Pathirana, Pathirana, and Thuppi Mudiyanselag Nil.
Bagerhat Police Superintendent Md Touhidul Arif stated that upon receiving information about the abduction, police launched a swift operation, leading to the rescue of the three Sri Lankan nationals held for ransom.
He confirmed the arrest of four individuals involved and added that further legal proceedings are underway.
The four individuals arrested in connection with the kidnapping are Kazi Emdad Hossain, 52, son of Serat Kazi from Dakshin Ambari; Shahidul Sheikh, 24, son of Sabur Sheikh; Johnny Sheikh, 38, son of Zakir Sheikh, both from Khatiagarh village in Gopalganj Sadar upazila; and SM Shamsul Alam, 45, son of SM Shahab Uddin from Charkulia area. Of them, Shamsul Alam was arrested on Thursday morning.
According to police sources, one of the rescued Sri Lankans is a woman. Two of the victims had arrived in Dhaka on 22 April at the invitation of Shahidul Sheikh from Bagerhat for business purposes. Subsequently, a ransom demand was made to their family in Sri Lanka via a Bangladeshi phone number.
