Suspected criminal killed in Pabna 'gunfight'

Sensing the presence of law enforcers, the criminal opened fire on the police members forcing them to fire back in self-defence, the police said.

A suspected criminal was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Pabna Sadar upazilla on Wednesday.

The deceased is Habban Ali Sheikh, 45.

"Police recovered one revolver, 5 rounds bullets and 2 shells from the spot," Pabna Police Super Sheikh Rafiqul Islam said.

A total of 12 cases lodged against him including arms, he confirmed.

"Acting on a tip-off that a group of criminals has taken position at Kalaban area of Sadar upazilla to conduct criminal activities, police raided the place," he added.

Sensing the presence of law enforcers, the criminal opened fire on the police members forcing them to fire back in self-defence, he added.

Habban was taken to Pabna General Hospital where he died early morning.

His body was sent to Pabna morgue for autopsy, he said.
