A six-year-old girl was shot during a shooting by armed men reportedly targeting her paternal uncle in Lakshmipur today (1 April).
The incident took place at Kashipur Kacharibari area of the Bashikpur union under the Sadar upazila at around 8:00pm.
The injured child was rushed to the Sadar Hospital.
"A child was brought to the hospital with a bullet wound. She was shot in the stomach. There were signs of the bullet entering and exiting. After giving her primary medical aid, the child was sent to Dhaka for advanced treatment," said Sadar Hospital's on-duty doctor Pijush Chandra Das.
The child's father, Ibrahim Hossain, who took her to the hospital, refused to comment on the matter.
According to local sources, a group of armed men opened fire at Ibrahim's house, targeting his brother Ahid, over a past dispute. One of the bullets hit the child, who was playing outside.
Contacted over the matter, Chandraganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Belayet Hossain said he did not know the details of the incident. "A team from the station has deployed to the spot."
