Sinha murder: OC Pradip, Liakat, Nanda Dulal not taken to RAB custody yet

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), the investigating agency in the Sinha murder case, is yet to take the three main accused – Teknaf police station's suspended officer-in-charge (OC) Pradeep Kumar Das, Baharchhara police outpost's inspector Liakat Ali and sub-inspector Nanda Dulal Rakkhit – into custody.

Md Mokammel Hossain, the superintendent of the Cox's Bazar District Jail, told The Business Standard that the court had already sent the papers related to the remand order to prison on Thursday last.

The investigating officer also interrogated four other accused at the jail gate, he also said, adding "However, they have not taken the three prime accused into detention."

Lieutenant Colonel Ashique Billah, director of the RAB's legal and media wing, told The Business Standard that they would be taken into RAB custody very soon.

"We are preparing all the papers and, once they are done, we will take them on remand," he added.

Pradeep Kumar Das faced fire and fury when he was thrown behind bars after being accused in the Major Sinha murder case, told the jail sources.

Meanwhile, the RAB interrogated four people accused in the killing of retired Army Major Sinha Md Rashed Khan in Cox's Bazar.

"We interrogated the four accused – Assistant Sub-Inspector Liton Miah and constables Safanur Karim, Kamal Hossain and Abdullah Al Mamun – at the gate of Cox's Bazar District Jail at 2pm," said Ashique Billah.

Besides, the RAB will take three more suspects into custody for interrogation. They are the prime witnesses to the cases of police against Shipra Debnath and Shahedul Islam Sifat, who were accompanying Sinha to make a travel documentary.

RAB arrested these three suspects on Tuesday. They are Nurul Amin, Nizam Uddin and Md Ayas from the Marishbunia area under Baharchhara in Teknaf.

The detainees were produced before the senior judicial magistrate court in Cox's Bazar seeking a 10-day remand for each, but the court said it would hear the plea on Wednesday, said Ashique Billah.

In the meantime, the two co-travellers of Sinha – Sifat and Shipra – have also been taken in RAB custody for quizzing over the murder on July 31 night, confirmed their family members.

Following the Sinha murder, police arrested Sifat from the killing spot while Shipra was picked up from a local resort. The duo was accused in two different lawsuits – attempted murder and narcotics cases.
