Three more individuals were arrested yesterday (20 May) in connection with the death of Shahriar Alam Shammo, a Dhaka University student and a Chhatra Dal leader, who was stabbed to death near Suhrawardy Udyan on 13 May night.

DU administration has been actively assisting law enforcement agencies to identify and bring the perpetrators to justice, the university said in a press statement today (21 May).

Shammo' father, Md Fakhrul Alam, met with Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan at his office to express his satisfaction.

VC Niaz Ahmed reaffirmed the university's commitment to ensuring justice in the case. "We are working to bring the criminals to justice without any political interference," he said, assuring continued support to Shammo's family in every possible way.

Shammo's father acknowledged the university's ongoing support and expressed hope that such cooperation would continue until justice is fully served.

Earlier in the morning, a group of students under the banner of 'Students Against Terrorism' held a sit-in programme demanding the arrest and trial of all involved in the murder of fellow student Shammo and the resignation of the VC and the proctor, reports UNB.

They locked the gate of the Proctor's Office at Dhaka University and staged the sit-in at 2pm.

Leaders and activists of Dhaka University unit Chhatra Dal and leftist organisations were present.

Claiming that the administration was negligent in terms of security, Surja Sen Hall unit Chhatra Dal's Literature and Publications Secretary Abidur Rahman Mishu said, "This administration is being negligent in security and in all other matters. They are still keeping classes and exams ongoing, which is a betrayal to Shammo's blood.

The report that was supposed to come in three days — it's been eight days today, yet we haven't seen any resolution."

Biplobi Chhatra Moitri's organising secretary Zahidul Islam said, "We thought the VC and the Proctor appointed after the uprising would be a source of trust for the students. But they have disappointed us."

On 14 May, police arrested three individuals in connection with Shammo murder.
