Schoolboy rescued within an hour of abduction following PM’s intervention
A schoolboy was rescued today (24 February) within an hour of being abducted in Khilgaon after the intervention of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
He was recovered this afternoon from a seven-storey under-construction building in the Jorpukur area, said Md Mazharul Islam, assistant commissioner (AC) of Police for the Ramna Zone under the Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
According to AC Mazharul, the boy's father, Khondkar Shamim, reportedly an employee at the Secretariat, approached the prime minister and informed him of the abduction.
The prime minister then instructed Masud Alam, deputy commissioner (DC) of Ramna Division, to take immediate action.
Police launched a swift operation and rescued the boy within the next hour.
Police sources said the victim is a ninth-grade student of National Laboratory Ideal School in Khilgaon.
After leaving school around 2:30pm, he was allegedly taken by four to five individuals to the under-construction building, where he was assaulted.
The abductors later contacted his father and demanded Tk50,000 as ransom.
Following the prime minister's directive, law enforcers initiated negotiations, assuring the suspects that the ransom would be delivered. During this time, police used information technology to trace their location.
The student was subsequently rescued from the building.
The abductors, however, fled after sensing the presence of law enforcement, according to the police.
