Policeman found hanging in Ctg hotel, injured wife rescued
Police says an investigation will clarify whether the incident was a suicide or if there were other circumstances behind it
Police recovered the hanging body of a police officer and rescued his wife stained with blood from a room in a residential hotel in Mirsarai Upazila of Chattogram today (10 August).
The couple's 10-month-old daughter, Fatiha Akter, was rescued unharmed from the same room.
The deceased was identified as Aminul Islam, 32, son of Abul Hossain of Abdul Haq Master House in Khaiyachhara union under Mirsarai Upazila.
He was a serving personnel of the Bangladesh Police. His wife, Tahmina Akter, 24, is a resident of the Hajishwarai area in the same upazila.
Confirming the incident, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) of Mirsarai Circle Nadim Haider Chowdhury said that police rushed to the spot in the morning upon receiving information, sent the injured wife to the hospital, and found her husband hanging in the same room.
The ASP added that the process is underway to send the body to the Chittagong Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy after preparing the inquest report.
Police recovered Aminul's body at around 11am from room 104 of 'Hotel Relax Zone' in the Bartakiya Bazar area of Mirsarai.
According to the hotel reception's register, Aminul arrived at the hotel with his wife and daughter at around 2pm yesterday and checked into room 104. They left and re-entered the hotel room twice during yesterday afternoon and night.
Hotel manager Sohan said that staff knocked on the room door in the morning but received no response. After being informed, hotel employees checked the room, at which point Tahmina opened the door from inside in a bloody state.
Sohan stated that upon entering the room, they saw Aminul hanging from the ceiling fan next to the bed.
The hotel authorities then informed the local police station. Mirsarai police arrived at the scene, rescued Tahmina, and sent her to the hospital while recovering Aminul's body.
Additionally, ASP Nadim Haider Chowdhury noted that the exact cause of Aminul's death and how his wife was injured have not yet been confirmed, stating that an investigation will clarify whether the incident was a suicide or if there were other circumstances behind it.
Meanwhile, police are verifying which unit or posting Aminul was currently serving in.
