Petrol bombs hurled at Gazipur Grameen Bank branch
The incident took place at the Maona branch of Grameen Bank in Bartopa Bazar under Maona Union of Sripur upazila
Unidentified miscreants hurled three petrol bombs at the Maona branch of Grameen Bank in Sripur, Gazipur, around midnight today (16 November).
While no major damage occurred, the signboard installed in front of the bank was burned. Police visited the scene and collected evidence.
According to police and local sources, the incident took place at the Maona branch of Grameen Bank in Bartopa Bazar under Maona Union of Sripur upazila. Around 2:30am, seven to eight unidentified youths suddenly threw three petrol bombs at the building and fled immediately.
Security guard Siraj Mia was inside the bank at the time. He became terrified after hearing the explosions.
"I suddenly heard a loud sound after 2am. I was so scared that I didn't go outside," he said.
Branch Manager Rehana Parvin said the matter was immediately reported to higher authorities.
"Our regular banking activities are ongoing. Transactions are continuing as usual. I am going to the police station to file a general diary," she said.
"One of the petrol bombs landed inside the bank premises, partially burning the exterior signboard. All our staff members are in fear after the incident," she added.
Grameen Bank's Sripur Area Manager Mohammad Abdur Razzak said, "Three petrol bombs were thrown, but the bank did not suffer significant damage. Only the front signboard/banner was burnt, with smoke marks. We have instructed the branch to file a general diary with Sripur Police Station."
Sripur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Abdul Barik said, "No major damage occurred. We are conducting our investigation."
He added, "Because of regular police patrols, the attackers could not cause a bigger incident. We have collected evidence from the spot."
