In a brazen daytime attack, a group of muggers allegedly snatched approximately Tk24 lakh from two Dutch-Bangla Bank Limited (Rocket) agent banking employees after exploding crude bombs in the Bason area of Gazipur city this afternoon (25 January).
The incident occurred at around 4:15pm in front of Kazimuddin Chowdhury School and College, located on the west side of a kitchen market at the Chandana Chowrasta. Harun-or-Rashid, officer-in-charge (OC) of Bason Police Station, confirmed the details of the robbery.
Senior officials from the Gazipur Metropolitan Police visited the scene shortly after the incident.
According to police and witnesses, Habibur Rahman, manager of a local Rocket agent banking outlet, and his assistant Sohrab were transporting the cash from the Bhogra Bypass branch to the Chandana Chowrasta branch on a motorcycle.
As they reached the school area, six muggers on three motorcycles intercepted them.
The attackers allegedly detonated several crude bombs and beat the two employees before fleeing with the bag of cash.
Habibur Rahman sustained injuries during the assault and was left in a state of severe trauma. Locals rescued him and admitted him to the nearby Shaheed Taj Uddin Ahmad Medical College for treatment.
