A group of miscreants disguised as members of the Detective Branch (DB) of police robbed Tk55 lakh belonging to PRAN-RFL Group in Gazipur yesterday (13 January) after attacking an official who was transporting the money in a company microbus.

Both the driver and the official were critically injured in the attack.

According to sources at PRAN-RFL, the official named Helal Uddin left the company's depot in Gazipur's BK Bari area with the money yesterday evening.

Two vehicles blocked the road as the microbus carrying the money approached the Rajendrapur area.

Later, Helal and driver Majibor Rahman were forcibly taken into the vehicle of the robbers, who claimed themselves to be DB personnel.

They were held at gunpoint in the moving vehicle, severely beaten, and the Tk55 lakh was taken from them.

Afterwards, the robbers left them by the side of a road in the Naojor area under Basan police station. Locals rescued and sent them to the Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital in Gazipur city.

Saju Ahmed, the central production officer of PRAN-RFL, filed a complaint at Sadar Metro police station late last night, said the station's OC Ariful Islam.

"Two of our officers also went to the spot last night and found out that it falls under our jurisdiction. A case will be filed soon over the robbery," he added.

There was initial confusion between Joydebpur and Sadar Metro police about who would accept the case, as the incident took place in Rajendrapur, which is near the boundary between the two police stations.
