Man shot dead allegedly while resisting cattle looting in Chattogram
Police and local residents said a group of miscreants arrived at the house in a microbus around 4:30am.
An elderly man was shot dead reportedly by miscreants who looted cattle from his house in Chandanaish upazila of Chattogram early today (26 February).
The incident took place around dawn in Ward No. 1 of Chandanaish Municipality area.
The deceased was identified as Chandan Dey, 70, a resident of the Uttar Gachhbariya area under the municipality.
Police and local residents said a group of miscreants arrived at the house in a microbus around 4:30am. They broke open the cowsheds belonging to Chandan Dey and his neighbour Nitai Dey and took out three cattle.
Sensing the intruders, Chandan came out of his house and tried to resist the group. The attackers then shot him before loading the cattle onto a mini-truck and fleeing the scene.
Family members rushed the injured man to BGC Trust Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead, said Chandanaish Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Ilias Khan.
Police later visited the spot and reviewed CCTV footage from the area. Efforts are underway to identify and arrest those involved, the OC added.
