Police suspect that on 1 December, in his wife's absence, Jony attempted to rape his daughter. The girl managed to escape but fearing social stigma, she did not immediately inform her family

Police have arrested a man for allegedly attempting to rape his 14-year-old daughter at their home in a village in Chuadanga municipality.
The accused, Enamul Haque Jony, 40, was arrested from Kaliganj in Jhenaidah yesterday (17 March).
Chuadanga Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khaledur Rahman said, "The child was reportedly subjected to an attempted rape. A case has been filed, and the accused has been arrested."
The victim has been taken into police custody for her safety.
According to police, Jony, a bank security guard, had previously been married multiple times. His teenage daughter, from an earlier marriage, is a madrasa student. He had reportedly been making inappropriate advances toward her for some time.
Police suspect that on 1 December, in his wife's absence, Jony attempted to rape his daughter when she was alone at home. The girl managed to escape and later confided in a friend. Fearing social stigma, she did not immediately inform her family.
On 14 March, upon hearing that her father was returning home, the victim reportedly took three paracetamol tablets and fell ill. She was taken to the hospital, and the incident came to light.
As news spread, angry villagers gathered outside Jony's house yesterday, demanding his arrest.
Police intervened and brought the situation under control.
At the time, the accused Jony was not at home, so he could not be arrested.
Multiple police units conducted operations to apprehend the accused, and he was later arrested from Kaliganj in Jhenaidah.
