Police arrested a man today (21 December) for allegedly killing a fishing cat in the Naldanga Bazar area of Kaliganj Upazila, Jhenaidah.

The arrestee, Jahidul Islam, allegedly killed the fishing cat and hung it on the back of an electric rickshaw. Legal proceedings under Section 34(b) of the Wildlife (Conservation and Security) Act, 2012, are currently underway against him, according to Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change press release.

On 19 December, a video surfaced on social media showing the fishing cat next to statements disrespecting freedom fighters.
