Lynching of youth: Factory floor manager handed Dipu over to mob, says RAB
A total of 10 individuals have been arrested by RAB and police so far in connection with the incident
Floor manager Alamgir Hossain of the garment factory where Dipu Chandra Das worked forced him to resign and then handed him over to the mob, which later beat him to death, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) today said at a press briefing.
The incident occurred in Bhaluka upazila of Mymensingh on Thursday.
Disclosing details, RAB-14 Director Naimul Hasan said, "On Thursday, the floor manager forced Dipu to resign and then handed him over to the mob. We have arrested two factory officials, including Alamgir."
He said a total of 10 people have so far been arrested by RAB and police in connection with the incident.
Asked about the allegation against Dipu, Naimul Hasan said, "We repeatedly tried to determine who said what and to whom, but no one could provide clear information. We will investigate whether this was the act of an agitated mob or if there was any prior enmity."
He added, "Killing a person on such allegations and hanging him from a tree before setting him on fire can in no way be justified under the law. Neither the government nor the law enforcement agencies consider this acceptable."
The RAB official said that as a case has been filed with the police, the investigation will proceed accordingly. "At the same time, we will also conduct a shadow investigation," he added.
Those arrested are Pioneer Knitwears (BD) Ltd floor manager Alamgir Hossain, 38; factory quality in-charge Miraj Hossain Akon, 46; Tarek Hossain, 19; Limon Sarker, 19; Manik Mia, 20; Ershad Ali, 39; Nijhum Uddin, 20; Azmal Hasan Sagir, 26; Shahin Mia, 19; and Md Nazmul.
