A faction of activists from the political party brought out a protest procession from in front of National Press Club to observe the first anniversary of 11th national election as the "democracy killing day".

At least eight members of the leftist political party were arrested from the spot.

The Awami League-led Grand Alliance won 288 seats in the 300-member Parliament in last general elections.

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), which won five seats, rejected the poll outcome terming it "farcical" and demanded fresh election.

The opposition alliance, comprising the BNP and some smaller parties, criticised the Election Commission (EC) and accused its chief of being biased.
