A Chattogram court today (9 February) granted a two-day remand for the former member of parliament Abu Reza Muhammad Nezamuddin Nadvi in connection with a murder case.

Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate Abu Bakker Siddique issued the order after a hearing.

Earlier in the morning, at around 9:30am, Nadvi, the former MP of Chattogram-15 constituency, was brought to the court under tight security from Chattogram District Jail, confirmed Chattogram Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner (Prosecution) AAM Humayun Kabir to The Business Standard.

He said, "Police sought a five-day remand for Abu Reza Muhammad Nezamuddin Nadvi in a murder case filed with Panchlaish Police Station. After the hearing, the court granted a two-day remand."

"He was later sent back to jail under strict security," he added.

According to case documents, on 16 July 2024, during the anti-discrimination movement, a student named Faisal Ahmed Shanto was shot in the Muradpur area under Panchlaish Police Station in Chattogram. He was rushed to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH), where doctors declared him dead.

Following the incident, a murder case was filed at Panchlaish Police Station, in which former MP Abu Reza Muhammad Nezamuddin Nadvi was named as an accused.

Later, on 15 December 2024, the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested Nadvi from Uttara, Dhaka. Subsequently, he was placed on a one-day remand in connection with another case related to the killing of student Khalid Hasan during the same movement.
