Farmer killed by lightning strike in Chattogram’s Banshkhali

A lightning strike claimed the life of a farmer while he was working in a field in Banshkhali upazila of Chattogram on Monday morning.
The deceased identified as Mohammad Firoz, 36, son of the late Mohammad Ayakub, is a resident of Ismail Sikdar Para in East Shilkup of the upazila. He is survived by three sons.
Sudhangshu Shekhar Halder, the Inspector (Investigation) of Banshkhali Police Station, confirmed that a case of unnatural death will be filed in connection with the incident.
According to locals, the incident occurred around 9:00 am in the Khetkhola area of East Shilkup Union.
Firoz was planting flowers in his spine gourd (kakrol) field when lightning struck suddenly, even before any rain had started. He died on the spot.
Mohammad Firoz, acting chairman of Shilkup Union, Rashed Nuri stated that there were no visible injury marks on the farmer's body caused by the lightning. "We suspect he died out of shock from witnessing the lightning strike."
After informing the local police station, preparations were underway to bury Firoz at the family graveyard.
