Ex-JU prof, BCL leader Mahmudur Rahman Jony arrested in July Uprising murder case

Police have arrested Mahmudur Rahman Jony, former Jahangirnagar University professor and former president of the university's Chhatra League unit, in July Uprising related murder case.
Jony was detained from Savar town around 3am today (23 August), Dhaka district police said in a press release. The arrest was confirmed by Additional Superintendent of Police (Savar Circle) Md Shahinur Kabir.
He was taken into custody in connection with an investigation into the killing of anti-discrimination student movement activists and local residents.
Jony also served as a former assistant proctor and assistant professor in the Department of Public Health and Informatics before being dismissed.
Last year in February, Jahangirnagar University authorities dismissed Jony following allegations that he had sexually harassed a female student.
The decision was taken at a syndicate meeting chaired by Vice-Chancellor Prof Md Nurul Alam.
