Ex-councillor’s sister shot dead in Dhaka’s Darussalam

A woman identified as Tahmina Rahaman Ranu, sister of former local councillor Aminul Islam, was shot dead by armed assailants at her home in the capital's Darussalam area last night (4 August).
The incident occurred around 1:30am at Tahmina's residence, said Raqib Hossain, officer-in-charge of Darussalam Police Station.
"The body of the deceased has been sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for autopsy,'' he added.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, a sub-inspector at Darussalam Police Station told The Business Standard that a group of armed men stormed Tahmina's residence at night, reportedly in search of her brother, Aminul. As Aminul was not home at the time, the assailants shot Tahmina and fled the scene.
"Although a case has yet to be filed regarding the incident, efforts are ongoing to apprehend those responsible," said Raqib.
