Driver arrested for reportedly raping college student on moving bus in Habiganj

The driver of a passenger bus has been arrested for allegedly raping a female college student on the bus in Aushkandi of Nabiganj upazila in Habiganj.
The arrestee, Sabbir Mia, was detained by locals at around 10:30pm last night (15 June) and was later handed over to Nabiganj police via the Bangladesh Army.
Nabiganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sheikh Md Kamruzzaman confirmed the matter to The Business Standard today (16 June).

According to police, the victim is a resident of Boro Bazar area of Baniachong upazila and a student at a Dhaka college.
She set off from Dhaka on a bus named 'Bilash Paribahan' for her home. Although she was supposed to get off at Shayestaganj on the way, she fell asleep and the bus took her to Sylhet. From there, she boarded another bus called 'Ma Enterprise' to go to Baniachong via Nabiganj.
However, after the other passengers got off in Sherpur midway, while she was alone on the bus, the driver Sabbir and his helper Liton reportedly took turns raping her.
At one point, when the student screamed after the bus reached Aushkandi, people gathered nearby and informed the police and army. When the army reached the spot, the crowd arrested the bus driver, Sabbir and handed him over.
However, the helper Liton Mia escaped.
