Police have recovered the dismembered body of an unidentified man, aged around 35 from a travel bag in Tongi.
The discovery was made around 9:30am today (8 August) when locals noticed the bag on Station Road and informed police.
Tongi East Police Station Officer-in-Charge Muhammad Faridul Islam said, "CCTV footage from the surrounding area is being reviewed. Fingerprints will be collected to help identify the victim."
According to police, residents spotted the travel bag near the Tongi Ghorashal regional road in the Station Road area this morning. A foul smell coming from the bag prompted them to alert law enforcers.
Upon arrival, police opened the bag and found several body parts wrapped in black polythene.
Investigators suspect the body was dumped by the roadside at dawn. Members of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) later arrived at the scene to assist with the investigation.
OC Faridul said, "After preparing an inquest report, the remains will be sent to the morgue of Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital for autopsy."
A case will be filed in connection with the incident.
