Caught using proxy in JU admission test, DU student and candidate sent to jail
A mobile court on Monday (22 December) sentenced a University of Dhaka (DU) student and a Jahangirnagar University (JU) admission candidate to 15 days of imprisonment each for attempting to use a proxy in the 2025-26 undergraduate admission test.
The incident took place during the 'B' Unit admission examination for the Faculty of Social Sciences at the Jahangirnagar University School and College centre yesterday.
Teachers on duty at the centre detained a student after suspecting irregularities during the exam.
The detained individual was identified as Md Ihmanul Haque Jisan, a student of the Urdu Department at DU from the 2024-25 session and a residential student of Shahid Jahurul Haq Hall.
He appeared in the examination as a proxy for admission seeker Rafi Hossain Sajit.
Following the detection, a mobile court took the two individuals into custody and, considering the seriousness of the offence, sentenced both to 15 days of imprisonment. They were later handed over to Ashulia Police Station.
JU Proctor Professor AKM Rashidul Alam said the matter came to light when an invigilator noticed a mismatch after the admission candidate's photograph had been altered. "The proxy was identified during the examination, and questioning later confirmed the offence," he said.
As a consequence, the registration number of the admission candidate has been blocked. University authorities reiterated that strict action will be taken against anyone involved in unfair means during admission tests.
