BGB detains man with 10 gold bars worth Tk2.48cr in Chuadanga
The seized gold will be deposited at the Chuadanga treasury office.
A man was arrested by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) this morning (13 April) while attempting to smuggle 10 gold bars worth Tk2.48 crore into India.
The arrested is Alamgir Khan, 55, from the Mokarparha area of Darshana in Damurhuda upazila, confirmed Lt Col Nazmul Hasan, commanding officer of BGB Battalion-6 in Chuadanga.
According to the BGB officer, acting on a tip-off about gold being smuggled to India, a BGB team took position at Darshana Railway Station.
"When the suspect attempted to cross into India, the patrol team signalled him to stop. As he tried to flee, the BGB members chased and apprehended him," Nazmul said.
A subsequent search of his body led to the recovery of two khaki-tape-wrapped packets hidden around his waist, containing the 10 gold bars.
The seized gold will be deposited at the Chuadanga treasury office, Nazmul added.
He further said that a case will be filed in this connection.
