BGB destroys drugs worth Tk1,321cr in Cox’s Bazar over past year

The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has destroyed various types of drugs worth an estimated Tk1,321.91 crore seized during operations along the Cox's Bazar and Bandarban border areas over the past year.
The destruction took place this afternoon (13 August) at the BGB Cox's Bazar Region office grounds.
Among the destroyed items were 2.34 crore yaba pills, 140kg 49g of crystal meth (ice), 61,491 cans of beer, 22,155 bottles of foreign liquor, 26kg of heroin, 169 bottles of phensedyl, 52.8kg of cannabis, 1,800 litres of local liquor, 192 cans of Commando energy drink, 540 packs of Burmese zarda, 4kg 405g of cocaine, two bottles of whisky, 3,37,642 packs of cigarettes, and 4kg of opium.
BGB Cox's Bazar Region Commander Brigadier General Mohammad Aksar Khan attended the event as chief guest.
"The BGB is working tirelessly to eliminate drugs alongside its traditional border security duties," he said, calling for active participation from people of all professions and social representatives in drug-prone areas to build community organisations to help prevent trafficking, alongside law enforcement agencies.
He urged everyone to remain vigilant to ensure traffickers and smugglers do not receive any form of favour or support.
Others present included Additional Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner Abu Saleh Mohammad Obaidullah, Police Superintendent Mohammad Saifuddin Shaheen, Lt Colonel Kamrul Hasan, commanding officer of RAB-15 Battalion, and Additional District Magistrate Mohammad Shahidul Islam.
