Banaripara AL general secretary Mawlad Hossain arrested at Dhaka airport
Sana is also an accused in a murder case filed with Uttara Police Station in Dhaka, police say
Mawlad Hossain Sana, general secretary of the Awami League's Banaripara upazila unit, was arrested at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka while attempting to travel to the United States in the early hours of today (1 May).
According to police, immigration officials arrested him around 2:30am and later handed him over to Banaripara police this afternoon.
Banaripara Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Mostafa confirmed the arrest and said immigration authorities had been alerted to an extortion case filed against Sana by a BNP leader from Chakhar, a union under the upazila.

"He will be shown arrested in connection with the extortion case and produced before a Barishal court," OC Mostafa said.
He said Sana is also an accused in a separate murder case filed with Uttara Police Station in Dhaka.
Advocate Mawlad Hossain Sana previously served as vice chairman of Banaripara Upazila Parishad and held positions as a member and panel chairman of the Barishal Zilla Parishad.
He was also a former central committee member of the Awami Jubo League.
