Sonali Bank CBA leader Zakir Hossain arrested over lobbying, extortion

Joint forces today (11 March) arrested Sonali Bank's CBA President Md Zakir Hossain and Senior Vice President Siraj Uddin from the capital's Motijheel area in a case filed over lobbying and extortion.
They were later handed over to Motijheel Police Station.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Motijheel zone Assistant Commissioner Hussain Mohammad Farabi confirmed the matter to The Business Standard.
A pistol was also recovered from the arrestees, police said.
Emdadul Haque, an officer of the welfare branch (cash) of the central office of Sonali Bank, filed the case with Motijheel Police Station.
According to the case statement, at around 2pm today, someone called Emdadul Haque and asked him to go to the CBA president's office. When he went there, he saw five to seven people, including Zakir Hossain and Siraj Uddin, beating up Emdadul's colleague Mizanur Rahman.
Emdadul alleged that after he entered the room, the accused attacked him and demanded Tk50,000 in cash. Then, the accused put Tk50 lakh in a cheque and forcibly took Emdadul's signature, reads the case statement.
In addition, the accused allegedly held a pistol to Emdadul's head and made him sign five white stamps worth Tk150.
