Police have detained a suspected arms dealer and recovered a cache of illegal weapons, ammunition, tools, and cash following a pre-dawn raid today in the Barumchhara area of Chattogram's Anwara upazila.
The detainee was identified as Md Abdul Majid, son of the late Haji Muslim Ahmad Chowdhury of Barumchhara of the upazila.
Mohammad Russell, additional superintendent Chattogram District Police, confirmed the arrest and recovery through a press release.
According to the press release, acting on a tip-off, a police team, led by Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Monir Hossain of Anwara Police Station, conducted the raid at the residence of Majid around 5:30am.

Further investigation led to a search of his residence, where officers found 11 small and large tools used for weapon manufacturing, a steel box used to store arms, and a smartphone containing photos and videos of various firearms.
Police also seized Tk365,000 in cash suspected to be linked to illegal arms transactions.
According to preliminary interrogation, Abdul Majid admitted to being involved in the illegal trade of firearms for an extended period, working with unknown accomplices to buy and sell weapons.
Police stated that such operations are aimed at improving public safety by removing illegal weapons from circulation and bringing offenders to justice.
Since January 2025, police operations across 17 police stations in the district have resulted in the recovery of 69 local and foreign firearms, 230 other weapons, and 200 rounds of ammunition.
A total of 70 individuals have been arrested in 52 arms-related cases.
Authorities have urged the public to remain alert and cooperate with law enforcement by reporting any information related to illegal weapons or suspicious activities.
Chattogram District Police reiterated their commitment to ensuring public safety and maintaining law and order.
