The Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) of Bangladesh Police has held two members of the Ansarullah Bangla Team – a banned militant outfit.

During the two separate drives in Lakshmipur and Dhaka, the specialized unit also seized jihadi books from them.

The militants were identified as Mehedi Hasan Joy, 21, and Shahjahan Hosen Emon, 19.

Acting on a tip-off, an ATU team rounded up Joy from Lakshmipur's Ramganj area on Wednesday night. Based on the information from the youth, another team held Emon from Dhaka's Shyamoli area on Thursday afternoon.

Police recovered jihadi books, leaflets, a laptop and a mobile phone from their possession.

During primary interrogation, the duo confessed to their involvement to anti-state activities, said police. They used to hold meetings in Noakhali district to collect funds and recruit new members.

Moreover, they used to circulate radicalized posts via Facebook and encrypted chat groups. A case was filed with Lakshmipur police station under the Anti-Terrorism Act, 2009, in this regard.
