7 arrested over Nassa Group workers’ unrest in Ashulia
The main accused previously engaged in the banned Chhatra League’s politics, spread misinformation to create unrest rather than serve workers’ interest, police say

Police have arrested seven individuals in connection with unrest involving Nassa Group workers in the Narsinghpur area of Ashulia.
The identities of those arrested could not be immediately confirmed.
Dhaka District Police Superintendent Md Anisuzzaman confirmed the arrests while attending the Gono Bishwabidyalay Central Students' Union (Gucsu) elections this evening (25 September).
Ashulia Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Abdul Hannan told TBS that the seven were arrested from different parts of Ashulia earlier in the day. "They were later formally shown arrested following a case filed by the Industrial Police."
According to Superintendent of Police Anisuzzaman, a meeting was held at the ministry regarding Nassa Group. The authorities planned to pay outstanding salaries by selling its property, but the workers did not allow time for this and staged protests the following day, causing vandalism and injuring police, army personnel, and the company's security staff.
Only a small group was involved; they are not genuine workers but saboteurs and miscreants, said the SP.
He added, "The main accused, Tipu Sultan, previously engaged in the banned Chhatra League's politics, spread misinformation to create unrest rather than serve workers' interests. He has been arrested and sent to the court. The other six were involved in vandalism, arson, and attacks on law enforcement."
The Nassa Group workers staged protests yesterday in the Narsinghpur area, demanding payment of unpaid salaries and reopening of the closed factory. Police dispersed the demonstrators using water cannons.
