Police have arrested a 65-year-old man on charges of raping two children -- aged 8 and 10 -- in Munshiganj.
Locals in the Char Muktarpur area of Sadar Upazila detained Sekandor Ali at around 9:30pm last night (8 March) and called 999, after which the police arrived and arrested him, according to a press release from the Sadar Police Station.
Sekandor Ali, of Serajbad village in the district's Tongibari Upazila, is known for selling sherbet in the Char Muktarpur area.
Sadar police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Saiful Alam said, "On Friday night, one of the two children informed his mother about the incident. Later, locals detained the accused and called emergency services 999. Later, police went and arrested him."
The mother of the child has filed a rape case against Sekandor, while both children have been sent to the hospital for medical examinations, added OC Saiful.
In the press release, police said the rape incidents reportedly took place at around 3pm on 2 March. However, the matter came to light on Friday night.
It further stated that the two children lived with their families in a rented house in the Charmuktarpur area of Sadar Upazila. The accused allegedly took the children to a secluded place and raped them after luring them with food and balloons.
