5 suspected human traffickers held in Teknaf
Organised groups involved in drug trade, human trafficking, and smuggling have recently become active along the Teknaf Marine Drive coastlines

The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has detained five alleged members of an organised human trafficking syndicate actively involved in smuggling people via various coastal routes along the Marine Drive in Teknaf, Cox's Bazar.
Lieutenant Colonel Ashiqur Rahman, commanding officer of BGB Teknaf-2 Battalion, confirmed the matter in a media release issued this afternoon (12 September).
The apprehended individuals were identified as Syed Alam, 29, son of Ekhlas Miah; Md Abdullah, 22, son of Md Yahya; Md Ridwan Hossain, 20, son of Yunus Ali; Md Nurul Afsar, 20, son of Kefayet Ullah; and Md Abdul Hakim, 40, son of late Dil Mohammad.
All are residents of the Dakkhin Lambori area of Teknaf Sadar union.
Lt Col Ashiqur stated that organised groups involved in drug trade, human trafficking, and smuggling have recently become active along the Teknaf Marine Drive coastlines, causing public concern.
"The BGB increased its intelligence operations and uncovered information about several organised rings operating under the patronage of certain influential local circles. Based on this information, a BGB team conducted an operation in various areas of Sabrang Union in Teknaf late last night," he said.
"Upon arriving at a location where several individuals had gathered for human trafficking via sea, BGB personnel detected about 10-12 suspicious persons attempting to flee. The BGB managed to apprehend five individuals during the chase, while others escaped."
The BGB official added that a case has been filed against the detained individuals at Teknaf Police Station.
