5, including SAD coordinator, held for attempted extortion at ex-MP's Gulshan residence

Police have arrested five individuals, including a coordinator Students Against Discrimination (SAD), for allegedly attempting to extort money from a former member of parliament in the capital's Gulshan, according to police sources.
The incident took place this evening (26 July) at the home of a former Awami League lawmaker from a reserved seat, located on road 83 in Gulshan, said Gulshan Police Station Officer-in-Charge Hafizur Rahman.
He said all five suspects were arrested on the spot and were in custody.
According to OC Hafizur, the group, led by a youth identified as Riad, who is a private university chapter coordinator of SAD, reportedly demanded money from the former MP's family.
A few days earlier, Riad and his associates visited the residence and demanded Tk50 lakh. That day, they allegedly extorted Tk10 lakh, he said.
The video of the incident has since been circulating on social media.
