2013 Shapla Chattar killings: ICT sets 5 April for probe report against Hasina, 24 others

The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has directed its investigation agency and prosecution to complete their probe and submit a report within two months against ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and 24 others in a case involving crimes against humanity and mass killings during a Hefazat-e-Islam rally at Shapla Chattar in 2013.
A two-member bench of International Crimes Tribunal-1, led by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mozumder, issued the order today (5 February), setting 5 April as the deadline for submitting the investigation report.
Earlier, 5 February had been fixed for the submission of the report. However, Prosecutor Gazi MH Tamim sought an additional two months to complete the investigation.
Following political changes in the country on 5 August 2024 and the subsequent reconstitution of the tribunal, Hefazat-e-Islam leader Azizul Haque filed a complaint with the chief prosecutor over the 5 May 2013 incident. He lodged the complaint on behalf of Hefazat leaders Junaid Al Habib and Maulana Mamunul Haque.

They are former state minister for home affairs Shamsul Haque Tuku, former army officer Major General Ziaul Ahsan, former former inspector general of police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Haque, former deputy inspector general (DIG) Molla Nazrul Islam, and Shahriar Kabir, president of the advisory council of the Ekatturer Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee.
Other accused include Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, former minister Rashed Khan Menon, former Dhaka South City Corporation mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, former minister Hasan Mahmud, former lawmaker Haji Selim, former prime minister's adviser Salman F Rahman, former Narayanganj MP Shamim Osman, former prime minister's adviser Tarique Ahmed Siddique, former IGP Benazir Ahmed, former additional director general of RAB Ziaul Ahmed, additional DMP commissioner (DB) Harun Or Rashid, former DMP deputy commissioner Biplob Kumar Sarker, Professor Muntasir Mamun, former ICT prosecutor Turin Afroz, Gonojagoron Mancha convener Imran H Sarker, former Ekattur TV CEO Mozammel Haque Babu, former Somoy TV managing director and CEO Ahmed Zobayer, ABNews24.com editor Subhas Singh Roy, former prime minister's press secretary Naimul Islam Khan, former army chief Aziz Ahmed, and NSI official Md Manzur Ahmed.
