2 arrested on separate charges of raping college student, murdering mother-in-law in Rajshahi

Two men were arrested in Rajshahi on separate charges rape and murder.
One of the arrestees, identified as Iqbal Hossain, is the prime accused in a case filed over the rape of a college student in Natore, reads a press statement issued by the office of Rajshahi RAB-5 commander today (20 March).
He was arrested on Wednesday (19 March) morning from Yasinpara village of Bagatipara in Natore, reads the press statement.
According to RAB, on the afternoon of 16 March, the victim student was going to her teacher's house to pick up books, a previously known grocery shop owner, Iqbal, called her in front of his grocery store in Chanduria Bazar.
When the student went there, Iqbal took her inside the store, and his associate, a tea shop owner, Malek, pulled down the shutters of the store, claims the RAB press statement.
"Iqbal raped the student inside the store," alleged RAB citing a case statement filed by the victim's father with Tanor Police Station.
Meanwhile, in a separate press statement, Rajshahi RAB-5 said they arrested a man on charges of murdering his mother-in-law.
According to a case statement filed over the incident, the accused, Shakil Ahmed alias Tachikul, allegedly strangled and hacked his mother-in-law to death.
He was arrested in a raid in Hedatipara of Bagha in Rajshahi on Wednesday night.
Citing the case statement, RAB said Shakil went to his mother-in-law's house on 27 April 2024 in search of his wife who had fled Shakil's home after he allegedly beat her.
However, after not finding his wife there, he hit his mother-in-law Rehena Begum on the head, strangled her to death and threw her into a pond, claimed RAB.
Later, a case was filed in this incident with the Bagha Police Station, prompting RAB to start a shadow investigation to arrest the accused involved in the murder.
He was handed over to Bagha Police Station after the arrest.
