Police arrested two individuals in Satkhira yesterday (22 April) for attempting to exert undue influence at the local Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) office using documents stamped with a forged seal and signature of the Minister of Water Resources Md Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee.
The incident occurred at the Satkhira WDB-1 office when the suspects attempted to secure land leases through fraudulent means.
The arrestees have been identified as Mostafizur Rahman, 35, son of Moktar Hossain from Narayanpur village in Kaliganj Upazila, and Abdur Rahim, 42, son of Nawab Ali from Kamta village in Debhata Upazila.
Masudur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Satkhira Sadar Police Station, stated that a case has been filed by Sub-Assistant Engineer Shafiqul Islam on behalf of the Bangladesh Water Development Board, bringing allegations of fraud.
The case has been formally recorded, and the accused have been sent to jail, he said.
According to the police, a group of fraudsters conspired to purposefully create and use a fake seal and signature of the water resources minister. The matter came to light when the executive engineer of WDB-1 office noticed the irregularities and confirmed that the ministerial seal and signature on the documents were not authentic.
The arrests were made after the two suspects entered the WDB-1 office in the afternoon and began pressuring officials to take action on their submitted applications based on the forged documents.
Sensing the deception, the BWDB executive engineer immediately informed the police, leading to their detention at the scene.
