A covered van carrying mobile accessories and other electronic goods caught fire while moving along the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway in the Kaibalyadham area under Akbar Shah Police Station this evening (24 October).
According to the Fire Service, the fire broke out around 6pm, engulfing the vehicle and destroying goods worth around Tk15 lakh.
No casualties were reported.
Mohammad Nasir Uddin, duty officer of the Chattogram Fire Service Control Room, told The Business Standard that two firefighting units from Agrabad Fire Station rushed to the spot after receiving the alert and managed to bring the blaze under control by 7:10pm.
"The fire is believed to have originated from friction among the electronic and mobile accessories being carried in the van," he said.
