Writ seeks cancellation of Hannan Masud's MP seat over affidavit info concealment
The writ petition is included in the cause list of the High Court bench comprising Justice Razik-Al-Jalil and Justice Debasish Roy Chowdhury.
A local voter has filed a writ petition in the High Court seeking cancellation of National Citizen Party (NCP) lawmaker Abdul Hannan Masud's parliamentary membership from the Noakhali-6 constituency over allegations of concealing information in his affidavit and affidavit fraud.
Lawyer ABM Ibrahim Khalil said the writ was filed today (19 August) on behalf of Nazmul Hossain, a resident of Hatiya in Noakhali.
The writ petition is included in the cause list of the High Court bench comprising Justice Razik-Al-Jalil and Justice Debasish Roy Chowdhury.
"He submitted the affidavit and signed it without being aware of its contents. He has admitted this himself. This is a forgery. We have come to the High Court regarding this forgery," ABM Ibrahim Khalil said.
The petition seeks directives to the government, through the secretary of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, to take necessary steps and immediate initiatives to declare Hannan Masud's parliamentary seat vacant.
In the 13th national parliamentary election held on 12 February, NCP-nominated Abdul Hannan Masud was elected from Noakhali-6 with 91,899 votes using the 'shapla koli' symbol.
His nearest rival, BNP candidate Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman, secured 64,021 votes with the 'sheaf of paddy' symbol.
