Supreme Court lifts bar on holding BAIRA election
The election schedule for the BAIRA election for 2024-26 was announced on 25 June, fixing the polling day on 14 September
The Supreme Court (SC) has lifted the bar on holding the Bangladesh Association of International Recruiting Agencies' (BAIRA) election for 2024-26 tenure.
SC Vacation Judge Justice Md Rezaul Haque passed the order after suspending an earlier High Court (HC) order which suspended the BAIRA election schedule on 28 August.
Senior SC lawyers Joynul Abedin, Barrister Md Ruhul Kuddus Kazal and Advocate Gazi Kamrul Islam Sajal also moved the plea to the apex court on behalf of the defence.

The HC earlier suspended the BAIRA election upon a petition of a voter. The executive committee of BAIRA later filed a plea seeking suspension of the HC order.

Fakhrul Islam, joint secretary general of BAIRA, told reporters, "In the interests of BAIRA's members, I applied for the suspension of the HC order. The Chamber Court then stayed the order. So, now there is no bar to BAIRA's election. We are committed to holding a timely election."
