Student killings in Lakshmipur: AL leader, 2 others asked to appear before tribunal

The International Crimes Tribunal-2 has ordered the authorities concerned to produce three suspects before the tribunal for their alleged involvement in the killings of five people, including four students, during the July Movement last year in Lakshmipur.
The three suspects were earlier arrested in another case filed in connection with the July uprising.
A three-member ICT-2 panel headed by Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury passed the order today.
The three accused are— Lashmipur sadar upazila Awami League President Humayun Kabir Chowdhury, Lakshmipur sadar upazila's Dighli union parishad Chairman Salah Uddin Jabed and district Chhatra League Organising Secretary Shahin Alam.
Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam, accompanied by Prosecutor Abdus Sattar Palwan, represented the prosecution during the hearing.
Five protesters, including four students, were shot to death when local Awami League, Jubo League and Chhatra League activists attacked a protest programme of students and the public at Madam Bridge and Tomiz Market area of Lakshmipur on 4 August last year.
A crimes against humanity case was filed in this connection at the tribunal.
