ICT orders producing Shahriar Kabir on 12 Jan in Shapla Chattar killing case
Shahriar Kabir was arrested on 17 September last year from the capital’s Banani following the July Uprising.
The International Crimes Tribunal-1 today (30 November) directed the authorities to produce Shahriar Kabir, former president of Ekattorer Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee, before the court on 12 January in a crimes against humanity case.
The ICT-1 bench led by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Majumder issued the order following an application from the prosecution.
Shahriar Kabir has been ordered to appear in connection with allegations related to the killings during a Hefazat-e-Islam protest at Motijheel's Shapla Chattar on 5 May 2013.
On 20 August last year, Mufti Harun Izhar Chowdhury, joint secretary general (education and law) of Hefazat-e-Islam, filed complaints of crimes against humanity and genocide against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and 23 others, including Shahriar Kabir, with the International Crimes Tribunal.
Shahriar Kabir was arrested on 17 September last year from the capital's Banani following the July Uprising.
Police later formally charged him in several cases filed over incidents during the movement. He has remained in jail since his arrest.
